WHAT CHILDREN SAY:
“After my art session I feel good about me. I feel relaxed.
“I am happy during art and after. I am extremely calm and I have fun.”
“I accomplished something. I feel like my mood changes. I am relaxed and motivated.”
WHAT TEENS SAY:
Teen attending art sessions: I went to Danah's for 8 months, and everyone around me has noticed a Change with my mood, and even my attitude towards life. But most importantly I feel great, even a week after my session. Plus I get to take home something new every time, and I have a LOT of fun with Danah. She is a very fun and special person!
Parent of teen attending expressive art session: "Danah has an amazing way with teens! Our daughter looks forward to each session. She is able to express herself easily through art when words are very difficult for her. We definitely see a positive change in our daughter."
Parent of teen attending expressive art session: "I brought my 14 year old daughter to Danah after I noticed she was 'not acting herself'. An increased homework load and difficulties with her friends were just a couple of things that was throwing her off balance. After just a few classes with Danah, I noticed a considerable difference in her mood and outlook on life. She was once again her positive and radiant self. She enjoyed her classes so much that she asked me to sign her up for more."
WHAT ADULTS SAY:
“While I was painting all my other stress disappeared. I become so absorbed in what I was doing. That was amazing! I learned a lot about myself through this course.”
“The atmosphere was fun, relaxed, open…no pressure. I found it insightful, funny and relaxing. I discovered my creativity!”
“When I first walked in art class I was anxious – it was the not knowing…The meditation centred me. I was made to feel welcome. The subject was joy. I was not connected nor did I feel joyful when I came in. I certainly felt joyful and content when I left! Thank you”
“Danah made everyone in the course feel at-ease and very comfortable. Her passion for art beams through her and reflects on the whole class. Painting and being in a class-room environment made me feel like a kid again. I felt care-free and could put my life’s worries aside for a few hours.”
"Art InDeed has been a wonderful shining point on the star that represents our time here in Windsor, to us. A place of joy and fun and refuge. It has been a favorite place for us to be - very nourishing and supportive, and we will miss your excellent programs VERY much!"

In The Community
Immigrant Women’s Centre:
“Art class makes me feel like I’m in an outside world exploring things that I have never done before. It helped me believe in our abilities and feeling confident. I was able to relax, create and explore my inner artist which I never thought I could.”
“I was so depressed before I attended this class. Then, I started to feel excited. It was a new experience for me. I learned a lot from this class. It was an enjoyable experience and a relief from daily stress.”
“It was a wonderful experience to share our spirits with women from different countries. We expressed out thoughts, beliefs and art from different cultures.”
Children's Aid Society Windsor-Essex:
"I’ve had the opportunity to witness Danah and the Art Cart on many Wednesdays, and I was happy to hear that starting in July she will be coming here on Tuesdays as well. I expressed to Danah how amazing it is to see the feeling in the room change when she walks in. You would want to think the kids are really excited, jumping around, excited to see her - but the opposite happens... I’ve noticed the children become completely calm and are very attentive when she comes in. She has a calming effect on the families. Also, while she tends to come in with an idea of what to do, she is very receptive to each child’s creativity, and allows the child’s creativity to guide the craft or activity. What a great program!"
"I just wanted to send a quick note that it was wonderful to witness the families participating in Art Cart tonight during Access. Initially, one particular mother appeared reluctant but in the end, there was laughter and pure joy from both her and her son. Danah was wonderful at handling them both and encouraging the mother to participate as much as she was comfortable. I am pretty sure the son smiled the entire time. It was great to witness such positive interaction between them that typically does not occur on it's own."
Hospice:
"I want to express my gratitude for the Healing Through Art program through Art InDeed at Hospice. I am a cancer survivor from tongue cancer; my ability to speak is limited. I am able with assistance to not just express my feelings, but to get in touch with them and release them. With the art and excellent, compassionate guidance of Danah, I come away feeling lighter, as if the burden I am still having with speech and pain is lifted. Being able to have a safe place to express myself is such a wonderful and precious gift."
“This was much needed after treatment for cancer- to find the lightness & joy in life. I have been given more freedom to express myself in a creative manner. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and feel that it has opened a door for self-exploration and expression.”
“This class was safe and inspiring to get in touch with the creative child who was told they were not an artist. It was wonderful and joyful. Thank you.”
“I love to come to this class, not just for myself but what I see clearing, releasing in others and above all the joy it brings to others too.”
“It is good for pain management. It is part of my survival.”
“Wow. That was powerful and healing.”
“I felt total freedom in the group with open discussion and deep sharing that I enjoyed. We could really relate to each other and got to express ourselves in paint. It was carefree and healing. I had no worries or need to prove myself.”
“A great avenue to open up parts of me that I’ve buried. I look at things in a different light more openly and not so cynically and I now share this discovery with the many children I care for. I’m more creative with them and I see the world around me with more vision.”
“I have been blessed with participating in a number of fantastic expressive art classes. Over the years I have found it demonstratively huge in keeping my spirit in tact in times of strife. It has enabled me to "do" something when at times I felt a sense of loss of myself and my abilities to "do" when struck with the ill effects of disease. I am amazed by all the creative outlets that have been brought to the table and only hope that more people get to invest in themselves through art.”
